Launch of Airbus Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security Analytics

Description

In an increasingly digital and connected world, cyber security is becoming ever more important. From connected cars, planes, buildings, cities, and even animals, software is everywhere and how we live, behave and interact with the world around us is changing.

As organisations adapt, developing and adopting technologies related to big data, cognitive computing and the Internet of Things (IoT), cyberthreats are growing in both volume and complexity. Smart companies no longer see cybersecurity as a function of the IT department, but rather a core element to be integrated into their systems.

Please join Cardiff University and Airbus as they outline some of the key research areas and developments in cyber security. The launch will include presentations by key representatives from academia, business and government and will be an opportunity to find out how working together Wales can be positioned as a global force in emerging cyber security themes.

Opportunities for engagement for both business and academia will be explored and the centre labs will be open for the first time for guided tours and demonstrations.

Speakers:

  • Dr Kevin Jones, Head of Cyber Security Architecture, Innovation and Scouting, Airbus
  • Prof Karen Holford, Deputy Vice Chancellor Cardiff University
  • Dr Pete Burnap, Reader in Data Science & Cyber Analytics, Cardiff University
  • John Davies, Wales Cyber Security Cluster & Pervade Software
  • Key Figure from NCSC (National Centre for Cyber Security)

South Wales Cyber Security Cluster

The South Wales Cyber Security Cluster will also be marking this occasion by merging their monthly meeting into this launch event so there will also be an opportunity to meet with many of South Wales' cyber security experts. The Cluster is an informal networking group of over 400 businesses in Wales who work in cyber security and both Cardiff University and Airbus have been proactive in the Cluster for the last 3 years. For more information on the Cluster visit www.southwalescyber.net.
