Machinists Inc. (MI) announces the signing of its Memorandum Of Understanding with Swansea University for the development of a low cost Space Launch System (SLS) and its production within Wales.
The memorandum follows over three years of active assessment of the Welsh economy and an on-going two-year collaboration with Swansea University’s College of Engineering within the Swansea Bay campus. The Memorandum outlines the areas of understanding in progressing a design, production and testing alliance for a low-cost propulsion and low earth orbit space launch system to be produced in Wales.
MI is an American owned manufacture and engineering machine shop and the largest in the Paciﬁc Northwest. They are based in Puget Sound, which is the world’s largest aerospace cluster.
MI has a long-established customer base in the U.S. for MI’s aerospace engineering, tooling and design capabilities. MI is active in the civil aerospace and defence sectors and will be providing their expertise and logistical support to introduce a cost down framework within their Welsh SME supply chain for the SLS, that includes their Welsh software/electronics supply chain lead and ESTnet board member, Cydweithio Ltd.
